Introduction
When I visit new cities in Spain and other countries I always look for decent bars during my sightseeing. This usually means checking out listings in the Rough Guide or similar. These have led me to some great bars around the world, which I would never have found without them. However, the listings are often too brief and sometimes include real duds.
I first visited A Coruña for a couple of nights in 2005. I liked the bars, cafes and restaurants in the port area very much. Having spent two previous summers in the city teaching English, I moved to A Coruña to live in June 2010. I began this project that Autumn.
The centre of A Coruña is teeming with bars and other places to drink. I have chosen a selection of varied bars. Some for their ambience, food, music, the chance to watch TV sport or for different reasons. They have one thing in common .... I really like all of them. All bar one are central, the exception is walking distance away. My selection includes 25 bars but I could easily add many more to the list.
This site is aimed at helping tourists and locals to discover great bars in Coruña. It's not aimed at groups of lairy Brits planning stag or hen nights (many of the bars would not suit that purpose), nor is it a glorified pub crawl . If you’re desperate to do that try the Bar Paris to Bar Dakar challenge in Rúa Franco, Santiago de Compostela.
I have included some links to other photo and tourist information sites if you're planning a trip to A Coruña. The blog section aims to focus on life in Galicia, and I hope it may attract some readers who wish to improve their English.
